With both the theaters and now television being flooded with quality programming, it can be difficult to not get into routine with the many superheroes movies and shows. So how do break this mold of men in tights and colorful costumes? Get away from the generic idea of a hero? You make a show about hero that isn't one, and for that matter not even altogether there to begin with. Add some amazing directing, visuals and a network that isn't afraid to take the roads less travelled and you have Legion.

With the Marvel and Netflix building up to the Defenders series, Legion is Fox's attempt to explore the X-men universe its entirety, meaning we can get a show that takes to focus off the baddie of the week in order to focus on the other darker side of the X-men lore. A formula that has proven successful multiple times for Marvel with their Netflix series.

From episode one, series creator Noah Hawley throws us into the mind of David Heller, an incredibly powerful telepath, and oh what a ride its is! Its easy to get lost and forget what is real and what isn't in David's head making each episode all the more interesting for it. Hawley's approach is perfect, introducing us to this elaborate world that may or may not be apart of the X-men cinematic universe and while not excluding those who may not have any who these characters are.

While Dan Stevens and Rachel Keller who play David and Sydney both deliver amazing performances, its Aubrey Plaza's character Lenny that steals the show with a insane charm and style. Watching her prance along pushing her own agenda has been a really treat and I cant wait to see what she has up her sleeve.

To say that Legion may be one of the best Marvel shows period isn't that far a stretch but by no means takes away from any of the other programs that Marvel has done. Its just that damn good. Legion takes a completely different approach then say shows like Daredevil or Jessica Jones which are great in their own right touching on the possibilities of a mature and darker side of Marvel. But what Legion does differently is not only touch that darkness but also builds a world of its own, without relying on a pre built universe or established character to drive it but instead on the strength of its story telling. Like Lenny says "Give a newbie bazooka, you cant expect them to not blow sh** up..." and I think we are the better for it.
