The Netflix Original show the Get Down is back for the second half bringing with it some new twist to some of what made the first part great. Part 2 picks up several months after Shaolin Fantastic and the Get Down Brothers having returned victorious back to their slice of the Bronx. Books, Ra, Dizze, Boo Boo, and Shao are now the hottest ticket in town closing shows and building their kingdom. Mylene has recorded her second single and growing with in popularity in the disco scene. While in Manhattan Books's alter ego Ezekiel Figueroa has gotten a foot hold in his internship and pursuit of college. With everything looking up for the kids of the Bronx Part 2 reminds us that there is always a price for fame and success.

Part 2 bring back the similar tropes form part one, the struggle of the "dual dichotomy" and the toll is takes on any individual, but brings across a lot strong this time around. This is seen perfect with each of the young teens has part 2 does a decent job of delving into each of the separate lives of the Get Down Bros. the part 1 felt like it grazed over in some parts. The struggles of Ezekiel vs. Books get complete fleshed out this time around. What is Zeke willing to part in the pursuit of music or Yale? While on the disco scene we see Mylene struggle with her growing popularity and what the labels wants and what that means for her family.

Where Part 2 shines is in its musics and being a show based on hip hop it would only make sense unfortunately the music doesn't always take front and center. When it does though it easily carries each episode and delivers even though some of the numbers seemed outpace in a disco setting. The Hip hop numbers are fresh and energizing showing off the lyrical talents of Books. I found myself more drawn to Ezekiel's moments of reflections and poetry.

What didn't work for me was the animation sequences which seemed to just be thrown together in haste. Almost like it was an after thought in my opinion. Another thing that left me bewildered was the finale. Was this the final episode of the Get Down? Was happened to the rest of the Get Down Bros.? Is that really it for Books And Shao or even Mylene and Books? These questions never really got answered in what seemed like it was all over the place on. Unfortunately they never answer any of these things and as it seems they leave it off right there.
All in all if this was the end of the series, the series as a whole as exciting and fun to watch as you get a look at two different styles of music that shaped the Bronx. Part 2 of the Get down is a fun look at the 80's with enough drama and music to give a show like Empire a run.
