Jack is back and you better watch out

After more than a decade of wondering if Aku's reign would ever come to an end, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim have finally given us the answer ... and it was worth the wait! Samurai Jack has finally returned with its fifth and final season and bringing with it some new questions, new faces, and a whole new tone from what those of us remember growing up with the is time traveling samurai can truly appreciate.

While maintaining its original grace and elegance, Jack's return is immediately marked with signs of maturity that is well deserved. We see right off the bat that Jack is no longer that optimist and hopeful hero seeking to right wrongs, but instead a grisly war torn man haunted by the loses he has had to endure over the last fifty years while unable to age due to the effects of time travel. The fighting hasn't stopped and Jack seems to be no where closer to defeating Aku and its starting to get to him.

We also get the introduction of some new face and what I can only imagine to the beginning of the end for our hero. Seeing Jack in a sense of fear and panic from our new unknown villain is excited seeing how not even Aku could intimidate Jack this way. Who is the mysterious man in black and who is he to Jack to have him so frightened? We also get our first look at the Daughters of Aku, an elite team that looks like they could play a larger part of the final 10 episodes.

It great to see that this show has endured the test of time and maintained such a sting following. Now being on adult swim we get to see the show take a darker and grown up approach, which feels right given the fact that those who started watching the show in 2001 are mostly adults now. While still retaining the original charm we get to see Jack in how I feel it was meant to be seen. Genndy Tartakovsky has done a great job keeping the comedic aspects that made the original run. I mean how can you not appreciate a Sammy Davis Jr. Robot assassin?

The fifth and final season premier was the much needs bit of nostalgia that felt like my fandom has finally been rewarded and sets the stage for our samurai's farewell tour. Cant wait to see how the series finally ends and what twist ad turn wait around the corner.
